Have you ever asked this question? What DOES God want? What am I supposed to do to find out? How do I do things that are pleasing to Him? The lessons for this quarter in our Sunday School class, we will be exploring these questions. For the next 13 weeks, we are looking at specific things we can do to please God.
During the course of this quarter, we will have 4 memory verses. I will be using the Bible in Basic English (BBE) translation for our class. I like this translation for the kids, because it uses words they understand. Here are the 4 verses:
Let the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing in your eyes, O Lord, my strength and my salvation. Psalm 19:14
for the Lord’s view is not man’s; man takes note of the outer form, but the Lord sees the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7b
And you are to have love for the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. Mark 12:30
I have kept your sayings secretly in my heart, so that I might do no sin against you. Psalm 119:11
Our first story, for September 1, 2013 comes from 1 Samuel 1:1-2:11. We will be discussing a “Praying Heart”. This story is the story of a woman (Hannah) who took her broken heart to God. She prayed for a LONG time for a son. She prayed in FAITH, and she KNEW that God would hear and answer her prayers. Her prayers came from her heart. Broken hearted as she was, her faith caused her to rejoice after her time spent with God in prayer, because she knew God heard her petitions and she knew that God would answer. In time, she saw the manifestation of God’s answer in the form of her first child, Samuel. We will look at Hannah’s prayer life and see what we can learn from her and adapt it to OUR prayer life. I am looking forward to this lesson, and I know that God is talking not only to my students, but to ME. I am PUMPED!
