Written in 2003, this is among my favorite poems. The meaning of this poem to me is very personal and difficult to express in words. Please leave a note if it touches you as well.
Haven’t I Told You?
2003
I beseeched the Lord in prayer one time,
“I am afraid. This is the end of the line.”
“Haven’t I told you?” my Lord said to me.
“Where ever you go, that’s where I’ll be.” (Joshua 1:9)
I cried out to Him, “Don’t you see the hurting I see?”
“What about the pain and suffering in the world and also in me?”
He spoke again, “The grace that I’ve given is sufficient for you.
Take comfort in knowing that I will pull you through.”(2 Corinthians 12:9)
I yelled into the darkness, in desolation and despair.
“Oh Lord, my God…You’ve left me alone and are somewhere ‘up there’!”
“Not so,” You showed me, and helped me to understand.
“I am holding you tight in the palm of my right hand.” (Psalms 139:10)
“I am so tired and weak. I cannot go on at this pace.”
“What good can I be now? Am I just a disgrace?”
He responded, “Don’t lose heart, My child, though your situation looks bleak,”
“I give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak.”(Isaiah40:29)
You are the maker of heaven and earth.
How can I fit into your plan. What is my worth?
“Haven’t I told you?” my Lord said to me.
“Where ever you go, that’s where I’ll be.” (Joshua 1:9)
