This poem was one of my early attempts at poetry. Written in May of 1999, it is not what I consider my best work, but I like it. Feel free to comment and let me know if you like it or not.
An Easter Story
May 1, 1999
Darkness…Stillness..A void, without form.
Then…Movement…The Spirit of God!! An awesome power!!
At His word appeared land, light and air …The Earth grew warm.
All this He created, from the stars to the aromatic flower.
‘Twas for his greatest work, still to come, that all was made.
He’d call this companion of God “Man”…All his needs would be met.
Then with dust from the ground and a breath, God’s will was obeyed.
A perfect creature, in the image of God, was formed without a regret.
God placed Adam in the most beautiful of gardens, wonderful and ornate.
With Adam, He’d walk and talk throughout the day. And God said, “It is Good.”
Though Adam had found nothing lacking, God saw he’d need a mate.
From one of Adam’s ribs, God formed Eve, a helper, as only God could.
One day, as Eve walked through the garden, that with Adam, she tended,
She met with a creature, subtile in stature, and evil in heart.
Tempted by the serpent, Adam and Eve succumbed, that’s what the snake intended.
Mankind was doomed, though He loved them so much. He’d find a way. He’d do His part.
From that day to this. All men were born in sin . . . and without life.
Jesus, God’s own Son, came to the earth. His life was perfect to the very end.
In a garden, nothing like the first, Christ sweat drops of blood amidst His strife.
He’d come for a purpose. To man’s need, once again, God would tend.
Not long after, they nailed Jesus on a Tree.
A painful sight. The people laughed in jest.
He suffered and died. He did it for ME!
God had done it! He knew what was best.
Christ’s death on that cross had paid a debt I could not pay.
But the end of the story is not there, Jesus was not, yet, done.
Though Satan had made plans. With the snares and traps that he had laid.
Three days later, the plan of God would be complete. Only then would it be done.
Two ladies named Mary had come with perfume and spice.
The stone, so large, was not in it’s place. It had been rolled away!!
“Don’t be afraid” is what they were told by the angel, so nice.
“Jesus is not here. He is risen!!”, what a GLORIOUS day!!
In death Jesus paid for my sins. In life, which now He did possess,
He could make for me a heavenly home.
I was black and dirty. My life in shambles. What a mess.
Jesus bridged the gap for me. Straight to God’s throne.
This is free to all who will believe. You have, but to ask.
Pray for forgiveness, your sins, you must confess.
Your life can be eternal. In God’s glory, you, too, can bask.
Jesus is the way. Trust fully in Him and your life will be blest!
